While most changed their minds, a few realized that a biology major was rather interesting, even if they didn’t keep their marine biologist aspirations. But what else can you do with a biology major? What entry level jobs are available when you study biological science? This list answers those questions for you, and includes some of the most popular and well-paying jobs for biology majors. Biochemists and Biophysicists ($93,280 per year) Biochemists research the nitty gritty details about living organisms and their biological processes, including cell development, heredity, and disease. This is the only job on this list that requires education beyond a bachelor’s degree for even an entry-level job, but a bachelor’s degree in biology will set you on the right path if this is the career you want. As a biochemist, you plan complex research projects, manage lab teams, prepare literature reviews and technical reports, present your research findings, and analyze proteins, fats, DNA, and other molecules. You can work in basic research (research for the sake of knowledge) or applied research (research for solving a specific problem). Most biochemists and biophysicists work in laboratories to conduct their research. The most prominent employers include college and universities, as well as pharmaceutical companies. You should expect to work regular hours, but you may have to adjust your hours when conducting time-sensitive experiments. Microbiologists ($71,650 per year) Microbiologists study organisms like bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi. Being a microbiologist revolves around research, so expect to do a lot of it. On any given day, you might identify and research lab cultures, prepare literature reviews and read up on the latest research, or plan large and complex research projects. Agricultural and Food Scientists ($64,020 per year) As an agricultural or food scientist, you’ll make sure that our food is safe to eat and efficient to produce. You do this by designing and conducting experiments for crops and farm animals, as well as working to create new food products and improving the processes behind packaging and delivering them. You can also choose to specialize. The most popular specializations include: animal scientist, food technologist, plant scientist, or soil scientist. This is a job that will allow you autonomy, as agricultural and food scientists work with little supervision. Due to this, there’s a higher chance you’ll be able to design your own experiments and hypotheses. With this job, you’ll work full-time in a lab, a factory, an office, or the field. You should be open to traveling, but the amount of travel you’ll do depends on your specific job. Zoologists and Wildlife Biologists ($63,420 per year) Zoologists and wildlife biologists study animals and how they act within certain ecosystems. This is probably the job everyone was wanted in middle school. As a zoologist or wildlife biologist, you design and conduct experiments related to animals, study the characteristics and habits of animals, analyze human influence on animal habitats, write research papers, and develop conservation plans. You’ll be expected to choose to study either vertebrates or invertebrates, and then to specialize from there. Zoologists and wildlife biologists work in an office, a lab, or the outdoors, and you’ll most likely be employed by a state or local government. Since you’ll be working with wild animals and spending significant time outdoors, you should be careful of animal injuries and inclement weather. Working with nocturnal animals means that you may have to adjust by working irregular hours. Fieldwork can also be physically demanding, so make sure that you’re in tip-top shape when you apply. Conservation Scientists and Foresters ($61,340 per year) As a conservation scientist or forester, you’re responsible for making sure that our forests and parks are healthy and last long enough for our grandchildren to enjoy. More specifically, you make sure that everyone involved with the forest adheres to government regulations and come up with plans for managing forests and resources. Ultimately, you’re the go-between for landowners, farmers, governments, and other parties. Most foresters and conservation scientists work for the government. Prepare to work in places as diverse as offices, labs, or the outdoors. For foresters working primarily outdoors, the job can be physically demanding and comes with the risk of insect bites, poisonous plants, forest fires, and other dangers. Despite the dangers and the expectation of working outdoors, you can expect work full-time, fairly regular hours. Biological Technicians ($44,500 per year) The role of a biological technician is similar to that of a lab assistant. As an assistant, you are under the direct supervision of a biologist, who double-checks your work. Expect to spend a lot of time in the lab maintaining a clean and safe laboratory, prepping for experiments, conducting experiments, analyzing your results, and writing about what you discovered. As far as specific fields, the world is your oyster. However, you’ll probably work for a company that specializes in research and development in life sciences, or in a lab at a college or university. You should expect to work full-time and keep regular hours. While your biology degree is an important step in securing this job, you should also get practical lab experience under your belt, either through a part-time job or internship. These jobs are just a few of the ones available to those majoring in biology. If you’re passionate about a career in biology, let this list serve as a starting point to finding a career you love.

Interracial Marriage Under Apartheid

Officially, there  were no interracial marriages under Apartheid, but in reality, the picture was much more complicated. The Laws Apartheid rested on the separation of races at every level, and preventing interracial sexual relations was an essential piece of that.  The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act from 1949 explicitly prevented white people from marrying people of other races, and the Immorality Acts prevented people of different races from having extra-marital sexual relations. Moreover, the 1950 Group Areas Act prevented people of different races from living in the same neighborhoods, let alone the same house. Yet despite all of this, there were some interracial marriages, though the law did not see them as interracial, and there were other couples who broke the Immorality Acts and were often jailed or fined for it. Unofficial Interracial Marriages Under Apartheid The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act  was one of the first steps in setting up Apartheid,  but the law only criminalized the  solemnization  of mixed marriages, not the marriages themselves.  There were a small number of interracial marriages prior to that law, and while there was not much media coverage given to these people during Apartheid, their marriages were not automatically annulled.   Secondly, the law against mixed marriages did not apply to non-white people, and there were proportionally more interracial marriages between people classified as â€Å"native† (or African) and â€Å"Coloured† or Indian. While there were in effect mixed marriages, the law did not see them as interracial. Racial classification under Apartheid was based not on biology, but on social perception and one’s association. A woman who married a man of another race was, henceforth,  classified as being of his race. Her choice of husband defined her race. The exception to this was if a white man married a woman of another race. Then he took on her race. His choice had marked him, in the eyes of white Apartheid South Africa, as non-white. Thus, the law did not see these as interracial marriages, but there were marriages between people who prior to the passage of these laws had been considered to be of different races. Extra-Marital Interracial Relations Despite the loopholes created by pre-existing mixed marriages and non-white interracial marriages, the Prohibition Against Mixed Marriages and the Immorality Acts were strictly enforced. White people could not marry people of other races, and no interracial couples could engage in extra-marital sexual relations. Nonetheless, intimate and romantic relationships did develop between white and non-white or non-European individuals. For some individuals, the very fact that interracial relations were so taboo made them appealing, and people engaged in interracial sexual relations as a form of social rebellion or for the excitement it offered.  Interracial relations came with serious risks, though. The police followed people who were suspected of engaging in interracial relations. They raided homes in the night and inspected bed sheets and underwear, confiscating anything that they thought showed evidence of interracial relations.  Those found guilty of violating the Immorality Acts faced fines, jail time, and social censure. There were also long-term relationships that had to exist in secret or be camouflaged as other types of relationships. For instance, most domestic workers were African women, and so an interracial couple could camouflage their relations by the man hiring the woman as his maid, but rumors often spread and such couples were also harassed by the police. Any mixed-race children born to the woman would also provide clear evidence of an interracial relationship.   Post-Apartheid Interracial Marriages The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages and Immorality Acts were repealed in the mid-1980s during the loosening of Apartheid. In the initial years, interracial couples still faced significant social discrimination from all races, but interracial relations have become more common as the years pass.  In recent years, couples have reported far fewer social pressures or harassment.

Hamlet Essay Conflict From reading the play Hamlet it gave me such a well rounded interpretation of a family crisis that ended up affecting an entire country. Throughout the play the main character Hamlet set the tone for many of the acts. His characteristics were so in depth, that his emotional state was never settle. His emotional state constantly changed, sometimes you wouldnt know what to expect from young Hamlet. Near the beginning of the play Hamlets emotional state was very uneasy. His father had just died so, he was living in denial; but to top it all off his so called mother married his uncle Claudius. By his mother marrying his uncle he felt betrayed. Not just because his mother re-married and his father hadnt been dead for a whole month. The reason why he felt betrayed is that his mother got married in such little time and to his uncle. This situation brought Hamlet to an even more uneasy emotional state. When hamlet was around Ophelia his emotional state was very virtuous. Hamlet was secretly in love with Ophelia and Ophelia loved Hamlet as well. Hamlet was to shy to tell Ophelia what his true feelings were for her; until it was too late. Hamlets emotional state when hes around Claudius is very blunt. You could tell that Hamlet doesnt really care for him. Since he became his uncle/Step-father. Hamlet loathes Claudius even more after he found out that he was the one responsible for his fathers death. When Hamlets around Polonius he tends to mock him. Even though he is the father of his love; he senses that he has a sneaky and cunning side to him. Shortly after Hamlets two friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern arrived from England and mysteriously started hanging around him. Hamlet knew that something wasnt right. Which it really wasnt; Claudius and Gertrude sent for the two to keep an eye on Hamlet. Hamlet received a bad vibe from them. His impression of them was as being two snakes so; he didnt want to spend much time with them. From describing some of Hamlets emotional states it portrays how a dysfunctional family can make a fellow family member emotionally unstable and insane. In conclusion, I think that the reason w hy Hamlet was caused to go through all of this mayhem and insanity was because, of greed, ambition, and power. Which was one the same reasons why Claudius couldnt repent for killing his own brother.

Alex used to drink alcohol and then she used to come to her workplace. But in the legal policies of that school there was nothing written clearly that if any employee gets drunk and then come to work then what type of punishment that person will be getting. As the school have to look into other matters also that if the parents of the students gets to know that a person who is getting drunk and then coming to the organization for work and not only that she is also cooking the meal of their children then they might not take this in a positive way and this might create a negative impact on the school and also on the staffs working there (Carvalho, and Orford, 2012). So, the organizations have to act accordingly so that the name of their organization also does not gets degrade and the employee of the organization also do not break any rule which may hamper the name and fame of the organization. So, for Alex the higher authorities have to make her understand that she should not do such types of things which will affect the name of the school badly and also the school organization has to make some changes in their legal policies and regulation s in which there will be mentioned that what the organization expects from their employees and which things will not be acceptable by the organization (Bek, and Lista, 2013). The organization will have to take certain actions against Alex but as she is a hard working employee of the organization so before taking any legal action against her she need to be warned but then also she does not change herself then she will have to face the legal actions which the organization will be taking against her. The legal actions adopted by the organizations have their benefits as if the organizations do not bind themselves with the legal policies then the employee will work totally according to their wish and they will not think about the problems and then the organization will have to handle all the problems. So, the organization need to implement some legal rules which will keep the environment of the organization positive and the employees who does not involve themselves in any problem they will also get a positive energy working in the organization(Borisova, 2013). Like in the case study though Alex is a hard working employee but if the organization does not take any actions against her drinking and then coming to the organization for this will give other employees to take steps which will not be acceptable by the organization. As the organization does not have any proof of her drinking and coming to work and also the organization has also not implemented any law that no worker cant drink and then come for their work so they are unable to prove Alex guilty and take any further steps (Dimond, 2011). But if the school had implemented the law before then based on that they could have taken steps which will help to k eep the environment of the organization positive and motivate the workers and will also prevent other workers from taking any steps which will affect the environment of the organization Borisova, 2013). So, the organizations need to adopt the best practices which will keep themselves positive and along with that they also need to have fixed work for their work like as Alex is capable of handling a lot of responsibilities and for that mostly the work pressure is on her and this is making her mentally and physically tired so the organization also have to keep all these in their mind they divide the work pressure within their employees so that the work pressure does not stress one single employee (Antonov, and à Ã‚ §Ãƒ Ã‚ µÃƒâ€˜Ã‚ Ãƒâ€˜Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒ Ã‚ ½Ãƒ Ã‚ ¾Ãƒ Ã‚ ², 2014). The best practice and the best preventive measure adopted by an organization will keep the environment of the organization healthy and will also motive their employees to give their best without breaking any ru le of the organization (Howard, 2013). So, to change this habit of Alex they need to talk with Alex and warn her so that she can change herself and also she need to be told that if she continues this habit of hers then the organization will have to take certain actions against hers as this habit of hers is making a bad impact on other employees working there (Gandapur, and Khan, 2013). Recommendations In this case study the main thing is the legal aspects which every organization need to maintain so that there is no illegal issues which may harm the name of the organization. So, it can be recommended to the organizations that they need to update all their policies and regulations from time to time with the modern time so that all their employees stay safe and healthy and the environment of the organization also remains positive which will give the employees an extra energy to work better and good mood and will help them to give their best to their organization. In case of the case study discussed in this assignment if any organization face these types of employees like Alex, who is one of the potential employee and for that they are unable to take any steps against her as they do not have any proof to take any action against her. Along with that the organization also does not have any law regarding drunken people coming to work. So, the organization has to be updated with all type s of rules which will they can use in their organization whenever it is required so that all the employees remain safe and healthy and the environment also remains good. Conclusion In a nutshell it can be said that legal factors is one of the important factors which every organization has to maintain both externally and internally be it in the domestic country or in the international country. Legal issues is one of those factors if they are not being followed then it will create a bad impression for the organization. The organization have to look into all the factors that their organization and also the employees working in their organization are not breaking any rule along with that they are also not breaking any rule of the organization. So, the higher authorities also have to make Alex understand that she is breaking the rules and this may affect other employees and they also start breaking the rule which will not be acceptable by the organization.
